With the rapid development of the real estate market (residential and commercial) and the growth of the well-being of the population (albeit at a slower pace), business related to security systems is attracting more and more interest from entrepreneurs. There are several main options for organizing your own business in this segment – importing equipment from abroad (mainly from Southeast Asia), developing your own systems and software, or providing services for installing video cameras and sensors. The latter option is most suitable for beginner entrepreneurs, since its implementation does not require large investments at the first stage of work.
An additional plus is the absence of a monopoly in this market. Large companies own only 10% of the total, and the remaining 90% are mainly medium and small firms that operate in a certain region. Despite the high demand for such services, competition in the security systems market is still relatively low.
The following types of technical security equipment are in the greatest demand – video surveillance and access control systems, fire and burglar alarms. The most affordable option for customers are security systems that are controlled from the remote control. Not every company, small manufacturing enterprise or small shop can afford to hire several security guards. Therefore, for them, the best option to ensure the safety of their property is to connect to the remote security system, which, in case of an alarm, will send signals to a common remote control. Until recently, this segment of the security systems market was almost completely controlled by the internal affairs authorities, but now various private security companies have appeared on it. Although non-departmental security still owns about 75% of the market,
In addition to legal entities, independent companies operating in this area also serve private individuals, putting their apartments and houses on alarm and offering a greater choice of services than “non-departmental” ones, and at lower prices. The principle of operation of the system is quite simple: if the boundaries of private property are violated, an alarm signal is sent to the desk on duty. The attendant sends the police to the scene. The subscription fee for a private apartment in Moscow is about 800-1000 rubles per month. The cost of connecting an object to the system is from 25 thousand rubles and more. Prices for legal entities depend on the object. For example, for the protection of a gas station, security companies take 3 thousand rubles a month, and for a room with an area of more than 150 square meters. meters – from 10 thousand rubles and more. A private security company charges about 20,000 rubles for installing a security system. rubles (for legal entities), and the monthly fee is from 10 thousand rubles or more. Additional services include the installation of motion sensors, fire detection and water leakage sensors. Their installation will cost 45-50 thousand rubles.
Many entrepreneurs who do not yet have experience in this area believe that private clients bring more profit, and often rely on working with individuals. However, in reality, the profit from private traders is only about 35-40% of the total profit of a conventional security company. Therefore, although it is not worth neglecting private customers, it is still advisable to try to cover both segments at once.
However, the range of services in the field of security is not limited to protection from the remote control. Currently, there are more and more new private security companies. Private security companies are often combined into a single network (for example, in Moscow there is a network of console protection), which can cover the entire city or one district. Having received a signal from the monitoring companies, they go to the scene. Each security company takes under its protection such objects, the road to which takes no more than fifteen minutes. In Moscow, the cost of servicing open source software is about 7-10 thousand rubles for legal entities and about 3 thousand rubles for individuals. The cost of installing the system starts from 30 thousand rubles.
The monitoring center is quite a costly undertaking. Its organization will require about 3 million rubles. Moreover, most of this amount will go to the purchase of expensive equipment. For example, a professional point that receives signals from 10,000 objects will cost 600,000 rubles. In addition to the purchase of equipment, the main items of expenditure include the rental of premises, salaries of employees, advertising and promotion.
Another promising direction in the security business is the development of security programs for individual orders. For example, a client does not need enough (or does not need at all) a remote connection, and he asks to install video surveillance at his facility. In this case, small firms that provide installation services come to the rescue, and larger companies that also develop special software. The latter have not only specialists in installing cameras and sensors, but also highly qualified programmers who develop software for combined security systems.
If most of the tracking and security devices are imported from abroad, then with the software everything is exactly the opposite. Such programs are usually created to order and therefore are very expensive. For example, the cost of equipping a large manufacturing enterprise with security systems can cost 10-30 million rubles. The cost of developing software for the needs of the customer is about 10% of this amount. On the one hand, the customer can save money and be content with old software, but at the same time, the installer will no longer be able to guarantee him complete security. Most of the developed programs are designed to minimize the human factor in the security system (so that, for example, the guard could not turn off the alarm on his own). For obvious reasons, this segment is the least developed in our country. The main reasons for its low popularity among domestic entrepreneurs are the high costs of organizing a business, a long payback period and, no less important, a lack of qualified personnel.
Finally, the most accessible direction, which does not require large investments, as mentioned above, is the provision of facility maintenance services, including the installation and installation of security systems. The only drawback of this type of business is not very high, although stable earnings. But this is the best option for getting started with a small starting capital (especially if you do not have experience in this area yet). The main expense items in this case are office rent and advertising of your services. Often, the cost of purchasing already programmed security systems and the wages of installers and installers of security equipment are included in the installation amount.
However, finding qualified installers and debuggers will not be easy, so many companies are forced to hire workers with no experience, and then teach them all the tricks. This comes with certain risks. Firstly, there is a possibility that an employee, on whose training you have spent a lot of effort, time and money, can go to competitors at any time, and you will have to look for a new employee and train him again. Secondly, since we are talking about installing security systems, you must be sure of the trustworthiness of your employees, otherwise the reputation of your company may be seriously damaged.
Until January 1, 2010, the installation of security alarms was subject to mandatory licensing, but at present this requirement is no longer valid. However, if the types of work on the installation of security alarms and video surveillance systems are carried out at the construction stage of the facility or during its overhaul (that is, when it comes to the design characteristics of reliability and safety), then the equipment installer must have a permit from the SRO (self-regulatory organization) . Without this certificate, you will not be able to engage in such activities. To obtain a SRO permit for the installation of a security alarm system, as well as the installation of fire protection complex systems, the head of the contracting enterprise must have legal responsibility. In addition, the workers who carry out the installation, there must be an appropriate education and qualifications (all this is documented). There are other requirements for an organization receiving a SRO certificate for admission to the installation of a security alarm.
In addition, you will need to license the burglar alarm itself, which is installed at the facility. The licensing procedure is carried out after the installation of the security device at the facility. It takes a lot of effort and time, so if you do not have the necessary connections to speed up the process, experts advise you to seek help from intermediary companies. Another important point is the search for a reliable supplier of customized security systems. Pay attention to the country of origin of the purchased equipment, its characteristics, quality, as well as the seller’s working conditions (delivery time, the possibility of a delay, etc.).
The total cost of organizing a business for the installation and adjustment of security systems is from 300 thousand rubles. This amount includes office rent, purchase of furniture, office equipment and necessary equipment, training of installers, wages, advertising. Standard (but no less effective) ways to find customers are placing ads in print media, distributing leaflets (including on racks in business centers and office buildings), business cards, advertising on the Internet, streamers and banners (outdoor advertising). From the first day of the existence of your company, try to work, first of all, on its reputation. As practice shows, after 6-12 months, up to 40% of clients come on the recommendations of their friends. Track the reviews of your former and current customers, try to take into account, among other things, negative feedback and all wishes.
