Modern education over the past few years is gradually moving to a paid basis. And this no longer surprises anyone. In addition to state educational institutions, in large cities there are private kindergartens, schools, sections, courses. At the same time, private music schools are a relatively new phenomenon.
Parents are more willing to send their children to paid classes either in the subjects of the school curriculum (for example, foreign languages) or in classes for general physical development (dance, wrestling, etc.). Aesthetic education, including musical education, has long been considered the prerogative of public rather than private schools or, in extreme cases, individual tutors offering individual lessons.
However, recently there has been a significant increase in interest in the services of commercial music schools. This is due to the fact that public educational institutions are experiencing a lack of funding. The salaries of teachers leave much to be desired, which is why many good specialists are either tutoring or completely changing the scope of their activities. Some schools can’t even afford to update the instruments their students use on a regular basis.
Another big problem of the state music school is the relatively high competition for admission. Not every child can get there. And not every parent will carry their child several times a week to the other end of the city. Tutors, on the other hand, are relatively expensive, especially if music is a hobby, and not a child’s vocation.
If you decide to open a commercial music school, first do a little marketing research: study the demand in this market, consider the location of your school, analyze the situation with competitors in the area and in the city as a whole.
If the data from this study are favorable (low competition with high demand), start looking for a suitable location. Please note: it is best if your music school is located close to a regular comprehensive school or even several (for example, in residential areas). Municipal music schools are usually located closer to the city center, but more remote areas are often not covered. In addition, there are requirements for the room itself, including area and sound insulation.
The music school is a general education institution, which gives you the right to rent a room for it on preferential terms. For example, renting a room with an area of 130-150 sq. will cost 35-40 thousand rubles a month. In addition, for such institutions there are special cash subsidies and favorable tax conditions that will reduce your costs by at least 20-25%.
Another significant expense item when opening your own educational institution is the purchase of the necessary musical instruments (piano, guitar, violin, saxophone, button accordion, accordion), furniture (chairs), equipment and materials (notes, etc.). As a rule, classical musical instruments are taught in music schools. However, vocal and pop lessons are no less in demand among children and even adults.
It is not worth saving on tools, since the level of training directly depends on their quality. Get ready to spend at least 350 thousand rubles on instruments, furniture, music stands and the notes themselves will cost 35,000-50,000 rubles. Another 200-250 thousand rubles will go to the salaries of teachers and administrators (based on 10 people in the state). Pay special attention to the search and selection of qualified teachers. 99% of the success of students (and, consequently, your business) directly depends on the experience, talent and patience of teachers.
Usually, the training at the music school takes place in two shifts: in general, about ten lessons a day in six classes. Thus, the total number of lessons per month is as much as 1800 hours! Classes are held, as a rule, three times a week for an hour and a half each. The profitability of this type of business is 20%. The average monthly payment for students is from 3,500 rubles and more (in large cities, about 5,000 rubles).
Depending on the number of students in the classes and the amount of government subsidies that you can get, the net profit can reach 100 thousand rubles a month. In this case, the payback period of your business will be from six months. Raising the cost of education above average to speed up the process of reaching the level of self-sufficiency is not advisable during even the first year of your school.
You can search for students in nearby secondary schools. In addition, direct mail is an effective advertising tool for this type of business. You can also print flyers announcing the opening of a new music school at home using a regular printer on colored paper.
Offer small discounts to first customers – this will allow you to quickly recruit a sufficient number of students. Do not forget about local Internet forums for parents. After all, it is with their help that many mothers choose schools and courses for their children.
